‘Freddy’ is a smash-hit ongoing stand-up comedy show in Sri Lanka (the first of its kind), that revolves around political satire and social commentary. To communicate the meta nature of the show for its third instalment, we developed a series of self-referential, copy-based ads about the process in which they were created- a dialogue between an art director, a brands manager and the client. Amidst concerns that the ad would be misunderstood, we moved forward with the approval of Feroze Kamardeen, the editor and director of the show, who had faith in his audience. The ads were met with much fanfare and positive reactions upon release.
